CHARACTER INFO

Character: Bennett
Canon: Genshin Impact, post version 5.8 update.
Age: No canon age given, but I headcanon him to be 16.

Background Information: Two wiki links: Initial backstory and story reveal and updates. But to summarize:
  • Bennett was born to two Natlanese adventurers.
  • They were killed in an attack in the Mare Jivari, Bennett miraculously survived and was protected by their spirits.
  • He was found sometime later by a Mondstadt adventurer, who took him back to Mondstadt before perishing from his own injuries sustained in the Mare Jivari.
  • He was adopted by the Adventurer's Guild and raised by a team of retired adventurers.
  • Years later, he found his way to Natlan, where after adventures there, he learns of his heritage there and finds new resolve to be the best adventurer he can be.

    Personality:
Having been raised in the Adventurer's Guild from infancy, Bennett, in many ways, embodies the guild's spirit and what it means to truly be an Adventurer. He's righteous and good-natured, always aiming to help out others with his deeds and do what is morally right, and he's always on his best behavior around others. He's strongly optimistic, believing things can surely get better and never wanting to give up no matter how bleak things are. He is truly determined to be the greatest adventurer in the world one day.

As an Adventurer, he's passionate and adventurous, always chasing his next big adventure, whether it's in pursuit of knowledge, treasure, or just the thrill of it all. No matter the stakes, he goes all in. He's hard working and determined, believing that once he sets off on something, he should see it through, no matter how difficult or dangerous it might be. By these qualities, surely Bennett would be a top adventurer in the guild, or at least a rising star, even despite his age, right? A lot of people recognize his passion and his talents, so surely he's well on his way to being the best of the best!

In an ideal world, that might be the case, but in the real world, Bennett isn't so lucky. Literally. Burdened with misfortune, Bennett has had to play it safe with what he takes on. Even the simplest, most lowly ranked of commissions were prone to going off the rails: a simple food delivery could turn disastrous in Bennett's hands. All this has impacted his ability to rise in the ranks of a reputation-based organization like the Adventurer's Guild. Yet, despite all that, he refuses to give up on his dream, seeing it all as one big trial he'll just have to keep overcoming.

Bennett's bad luck has played a key role in his growth as a person. Having grown up with it influencing him his whole life, it has resulted in the boy having a rather warped perception of himself. He accepts his misfortune as just a regular part of his life and continues on in spite of it. While this gives him unusual levels of tenacity and determination, it also gives him some troubling self-image issues. If something goes wrong in his presence, he's quick to think that he and his bad luck are the reason for it happening, accepting blame for it and being prone to apologizing for whatever he caused, regardless of if it even could be chalked up to bad luck or if it's even possible for him to have caused it in the first place. They're thoughts and behaviors that seem completely at odds with his passionate, almost reckless spirit. Or perhaps, that spirit is born from those troubles, striving to overcome them?

Since his adventures in Natlan, Bennett's bad luck seems to have changed for the better, allowing his fortune to manifest the way it was meant to be, instead of in the warped manner that it has been. Despite that, none of that has changed who Bennett is as a person. In fact, seemingly released from the shackles of misfortune, Bennett is now more determined than ever to live his life to the fullest and pursue his dream of being the greatest adventurer the world has ever known one day.

    Abilities & Inventory:
    Abilities:
Swordplay: Bennett is a one-handed sword wielder, and is noted to be quite talented with his abilities in a fight. He's strong despite his light frame, and agile as well, allowing him to hold his own against even the toughest of opponents. His astounding prowess for combat is even noticed and commented upon by Varka, who is the head captain of the Knights of Favonius.

Pyro Vision: Bennett is one of those lucky enough to be blessed with a Vision. While ICly the majority of the world believes that Visions are bestowed upon those chosen by the Archons, the truth of their origins are unknown at this time. However, it's thanks to this item that Bennett finds the strength to carry on in life each and every day. At his lowest point in life, he was saved from what would have been certain death for him and granted a Vision thanks to his undying passion; if the gods haven't given up on him, then he shouldn't give up on himself.

Gameplay-wise, his Pyro Vision grants him two unique abilities:
Passion Overload: This skill allows him to wreath his sword in flames and strike the enemy with it. He's also able to charge the attack and increase the number of hits and the amount of fire the attack outputs: At its strongest level, the flame sword he creates doubles in size and the force of the attack is so strong that it blows Bennett backwards upon landing it.
Fantastic Voyage: Bennett's 'Burst', usable upon gathering and releasing enough Elemental Energy through his Vision. Bennett slams the ground with his fist, creating a large explosion and imprinting the ground with his signature [thumbs up]. This creates an "inspiration field", granting strong continuous healing and a very strong attack buff to himself and his allies for the duration of it.

Beyond this, though Bennett is not shown doing this, other vision wielders are implied and shown to manipulate their respective element in a variety of ways beyond what they can do in combat, so presumably he would be able to do the same.

Extreme durability: he can take one hell of a beating. It's not that he's immune to pain, it's that he's gotten so used to getting injured all the time that the pain just doesn't bother him anymore, letting him push himself far beyond his limits. It's a double-edged sword, letting him fearlessly charge into danger but also meaning that at the end of the day he shows up with more injuries than any reasonable person should. Thank goodness for healers, right…

Unusual luck: Less of an ability and more of a way of life, Bennett is a natural magnet for bad luck. When it comes to Bennett, if something can go wrong, it usually does, ranging from falling into traps, getting stuck in bad weather, attracting monsters, and never having a good adventure. He's learned how to use this unique quirk of his to his benefit though: If he draws all the misfortune to himself, then it can't harm his comrades, leaving only good fortune for them.

Or at least that was the case for him. Since his adventures in Natlan and reconnecting with his heritage, his luck has seemingly changed for the better; whereas a rockslide on an adventure before might leave him in peril and he'll be forced to find a way to safety just to survive, now it might lead him to unexpected adventures and rewards.

    Inventory:
Traveler's Handy Sword, a sword whose sheath is designed in such a way that it's able to store a number of useful items for travel in it.
Treasure Compass A compass designed for locating treasure in Teyvat. Will probably be useless unless he can find a way to get it working here.
NRE (Menu 30) Bag A bag perfect for holding food and snacks on the road.
    Travel Bag
    Pyro Vision

  • ARMADA SELECTION

Bennett will be a Corsair. It's a twofold reason: the first reason is because the free-wheeling adventurous explorer life of the corsairs suits Bennett much more. The second is that I think it's funny to imagine this absolute cinnamon roll of a boy being lumped in with the reputation the corsairs have compared to the paladins.
